A room count does not describe the whole move
Two flats with the same number of rooms can involve very different work. A fitted kitchen needs a different plan from a sofa that fits straight through the door. Distance matters, but so do the volume, condition and assembly requirements of each item.
Make a room by room list of furniture, appliances, boxes and unusual objects. Separate items being moved from those staying behind. If you have not decided everything yet, mark uncertain quantities clearly and update them before confirming the work.
Use photographs and measurements
Take a general photograph of each room and closer pictures of large pieces. For wardrobes, kitchens and bookcases, include width, height and depth. A make, model, layout or assembly instructions can help identify the work involved.
Show wall fixings, glass panels and altered or damaged parts. Photographs may reveal the need for a survey; they do not always replace one. Flag glued joints or missing instructions early so that dismantling can be assessed realistically.
Describe both addresses equally carefully
Give the floor level, usable lift dimensions and narrowest passages at both properties. Mention entrance steps, small landings and difficult corridors. A cabinet that leaves your old home easily may not fit into the new one.
Explain where a vehicle can stop and how far the entrance is from the loading point. Where access is regulated, ask how any necessary arrangements will be handled. Do not assume that permits or parking reservations are included.
- Full departure and destination addresses.
- Floors, lifts and narrow passages.
- Loading space and distance to the entrance.
- Preferred dates and flexibility.
Compare the agreed scope as well as the price
Ask the quotation to identify transport, loading, unloading, dismantling, reassembly and any packing separately. Materials, specialist equipment and additional tasks should be described where required. A total without a clear scope is hard to compare.
Before confirming, clarify timing, payment terms, how changes are handled and the conditions relating to damage. Report inventory or access changes promptly. Clear information helps everyone plan the same job.
