Check the layout in the actual room
A cabinet can fit the wall perfectly and still cause problems when its doors open. Check drawers, door swings, sockets, radiators and nearby doors. Skirting boards and uneven surfaces also matter.
Keep the measured layout available for kitchens or larger arrangements. Share the latest drawing if the plan changed after ordering, and ask for proposed alterations to be assessed before assuming they can be made.
Keep package information together
At delivery, compare the number of packages with the available documents and note visible packaging damage. Keep labels and component codes readable, especially where several boxes contain similar parts.
Ask the assembler before opening every box or spreading components across different rooms. Keep hardware, accessories and instructions with the relevant package. Similar looking screws are not necessarily interchangeable.
Allow space to work as well as space for the furniture
Panels may need to lie flat and assembled sections may need turning. A crowded room makes both harder. Clear the route from the entrance and remove fragile objects, loose rugs and anything that blocks movement.
Explain the floor finish and agree suitable protection. Keep children and pets away from the working area. Check any building rules on noise or lift use before confirming the appointment.
- A clear entrance route.
- Room for packaging and components.
- Delicate belongings moved away.
- Instructions and the layout ready.
Clarify wall fixings and utility connections
Walls have different fixing requirements. Mention plasterboard, special finishes and any known information about concealed utilities. Fixings must suit both the wall and the furniture; hardware in a box should not be assumed suitable without assessment.
For kitchens and fitted furniture, clarify which utility connections are included and which require a separate professional. At completion, review doors, drawers, alignment and the agreed components together. Keep the manufacturer’s care and use instructions.
